About the Green Fair & Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods

A celebration of community, nature and the stunning Gledhow Valley Woods in the heart of Leeds.

The Gledhow Valley Green Fair

The Gledhow Valley Green Fair is an annual community celebration held in the beautiful Gledhow Valley Woods in north-east Leeds. Each year, thousands of visitors come together to enjoy a free, family-friendly day out in nature — surrounded by ancient trees, babbling streams, and the rich wildlife of one of Leeds' most treasured green spaces.

The fair features a wonderful mix of local stalls, eco-friendly information stands, live music, children's activities, guided woodland walks, and a wide range of food and drink refreshments — all set against the stunning backdrop of the valley. Whether you're a longtime local or visiting for the first time, the Green Fair offers something for everyone.

Entry is completely free, and the event is run almost entirely by volunteers from the local community. It's a joyful reminder of what makes Gledhow Valley so special — and why it's worth protecting for future generations.

Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods

The Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods (FGVW) is a registered charity dedicated to the care, conservation and celebration of Gledhow Valley Woods. We work in partnership with Leeds City Council, other statutory organisations, community groups, Wades charity and local schools to maintain and improve this precious urban green corridor.

Our volunteers carry out regular conservation tasks throughout the year — from litter picks and path clearance to tree planting and habitat management. We run educational events, guided walks, and nature activities that connect people of all ages with the natural world on their doorstep.

The annual Green Fair is our flagship community event — a celebration of everything we love about the woods and the people who care for them. It's made possible entirely through the dedication of our wonderful volunteers and the generous support of local businesses and organisations.
